A fable

The Gardener and his sons lived together in between the world and the underworld. They harvested organs that grew through the ground, some for their own endless hunger and some to pass on to the living. Though the Gardener had taught them well he soon saw that his sons had become conceited and ungrateful so he prepared himself to depart the land and let his sons see what it was to work and grow and nurture the organs for themselves.

The horn was sounded for the sons to gather and even the foolish sons that had been imprisoned were let out to hear the announcement. The Gardener’s voice was a mere whisper. When the sons understood that he would be leaving an immense wave of cries and screeches washed over the land. The beasts were lost without their father. They began to explore all the forbidden forests and plains, waking up creatures of old. The world became chaos. Within days the land was barren. The sons had eaten every hand, lung, eye that had grown there including all the infected ones. The wild things were chasing and killing the sons, other sons began to drink the blood of their dead brothers.

In the darkest days a rumour began to spread that father had left a large nervous system of human organs growing beneath the soil. The remaining brothers began to dig but all they found beneath was a rotten heart. They lay on the ground hungry.

A new Gardener arrived two days later and found the garden full of human fruit but no sons to be seen. The seeds from the bellies of the sons had grown new fruit overnight.
